You can&#8217;t rely on\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">spell-checker to flag misuse of these words either (unless you&#8217;ve made a typo) so it&#8217;s important to understand the difference between the two and know when you should use &#8216;maybe&#8217; and when you should use &#8216;may be&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em style=\"font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">Maybe<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"> is an adverb, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">and it means &#8216;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">perhaps<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">&#8216; or &#8216;possibly&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; color: #000080;\">Example<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">Maybe<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"> I\u2019ll <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">start the course in the Summer.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">Maybe\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">if I save up I&#8217;ll be able to afford a new outfit<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"><i>Maybe can also be used as <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">a noun and it can mean &#8216;uncertain&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A good way to test if you\u2019re using the right version when using\u00a0&#8216;maybe&#8217;\u00a0is to\u00a0replace it with\u00a0&#8216;perhaps&#8217;. If the sentence still makes sense,\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0got it right.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Perhaps you could use &#8216;may be&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\">May be<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;\"> is a verb phrase.
